Scope and Content

A collection of three sermon note books, ca. 1833 - 1841, mainly in the hand of Rev. James Davies. One item contains a summary of the life of the late Rev. James Davies.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. James Davies was born on 22 December 1800 in the parish of Penbryn, Cardiganshire. His father was a schoolmaster and an exceptional scholar. As a result, James Davies, benefited from a good education and also became a schoolmaster. He became a member of the Calvinist Methodists in New Quay, Cardiganshire at the age of 21 and was fully ordained in 1841 at the Llangeitho ministry in the same shire. He died in 1853 after a long illness.

Arrangement

The books have been incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts and arranged chronologically.
