Administrative / Biographical History

In the 1983 General Election the Conservative Party won with 13,012,316 votes (42.4 per cent). The Labour Party gained 8,456,934 votes (27.6 per cent), the Liberal Party 4,210,115 votes (13.7 per cent), the Social Democratic Party 3,579,834 votes (11.7 per cent), the Scottish National Party 331,975 votes (1.1 per cent), Plaid Cymru 125,309 votes (0.4 per cent), the National Front 27,065 (0.1 per cent) and the Communist Party 11,606 (0.0 per cent)
