Sir Charles Dilke 1843-1911

Dilke was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was Senior Legalist (head of Law Tripos), 1865. Dilke was twice Vice-President and twice President of the Cambridge Union Society. He was a barrister at Middle Temple, and MP (Liberal) for Chelsea, 1868-1886 and Forest of Dean 1892-1911. From 1880 to 1882 he was Under-Secretary of State Foreign Affairs, 1880-1882; President Local Government Board, 1882-1885; Chairman Royal Commission for Negotiations with France, 1880-1882; Chairman Royal Commission for Housing of the Working-Class 1884-1885; Chairman Select Committee on Income Tax, 1906.
