Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Scottish Lead Manufacturers' Association and the Association of Lead Sellers (Scotland) were both formed on 5 May 1909 from meetings at the offices of their appointed secretaries, Thomson McLintock & Co , chartered accountants, Glasgow, Scotland, and the minutes of both organisations were kept in the same minute book. The Lead Sheet & Pipe Industry (Scottish Section) met formally for the first time on 8 June 1942 and their minutes were then also kept in the same series of minute books as the other 2 organisations. The purpose of these organisations was to protect the interests of their members e.g. setting prices.
The Scottish Lead Manufacturers' Association held monthly general meetings. At a general meeting on 18 October 1962 the association's future was discussed and it was decided that a final decision would be taken once all members had been consulted, but that it would remain in being until 31 December 1962 pending this decision. The Association appears to have been dissolved.
The Association of Lead Sellers (Scotland) was in existence until 23 February 1962 when at the annual general meeting it was decided to dissolve the association, realise the investments and repay these to the members.
The Lead Sheet & Pipe Industry (Scottish Section) was replaced by the Lead Sheet & Pipe Manufacturers' Federation (Scottish Section) as from 1 July 1946 . The Federation was dissolved with effect from 31 October 1962 .
