Scope and Content

These are the papers of three different charities in the parish.

William Fletcher, alderman of the city of Oxford, set up a charity in Yarnton in 1818? The charity included distributing bread and meat at Christmas to the poor of the parish, and saw the building of a Clerk's House, that also contained a schoolroom. The Spencer Charity was established in 1684 from the will of Sir Thomas Spencer. This was to fund the upkeep of the Spencer family chapel, and then the resdiue was to be given to the poor on St Thomas's day.

West's Charity was established by will in 1840 and was the assist the lying-in of the poor and deserving parishioners.
