The series comprises 8 volumes which furnish an account of The Board of Agriculture committee meetings. In effect, the series documents the high-level decision-making processes of the Board as well as the activities undertaken by the Board in order to realise its statutory obligations as set out in the Agriculture and Rural Industries Act, 1914.
The sequence of minutes runs from the Board's inaugural meeting, which was held on the 4 Sep 1915, right through until the Board's dissolution and subsequent divestment of its core functions to the newly created Board of Agriculture and Fisheries in 1946.
Activities evidenced within the Board's minutes include but are not limited to: the election of the Board's Chairman and the appointment of the Board's Secretary, Treasurer and Librarian; the enforcement of quality control in relation to imported livestock, seed and foodstuffs; the administration of agricultural shows in conjunction with the Isle of Man Agricultural Society; the administration of various schemes for the ongoing development of the Island's agricultural industry; and the management of the Knockaloe Experimental Farm.
