Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Rev. Griffith Jones (d. 1749), rector of Bodfari, Flintshire, and afterwards of Denbigh, Denbighshire, was the son of John Owen of Tyn y Coed, Clynnog-fawr, Caernarfonshire. In 1719, he married Sarah, daughter and sole heir of Morris Hugh of Llannor. His heir was his son, Zaccheus Jones (c. 1721-1758). Grace Jones (1747-1829), one of Zaccheus's daughters, married Thomas Jones (c. 1754-1824) of Bryntirion, Bangor, Caernarfonshire. Thomas's son Zaccheus (fl. 1814) had an only son (c. 1816-1822), who died young. Bryntirion was inherited by Frank Walker (1809-1855), of Beddgelert, Caernarfonshire, grandson of Sarah Jones (b. 1742), one of the sisters of Grace Jones. He assumed the additional surname of Jones in 1830, presumably on inheriting the estate, but later sold Bryntirion to Thomas Assheton-Smith (1776-1858), of Vaynol.
