Eleven letters, 1894-1898, from Charles Ashton to David Roberts, printer, of London and Manchester, mostly relating to the compilation of his proposed bibliography of nineteenth century Welsh books (ff. 1-15, 25 verso). Also included are lists, 1894-1895, of Welsh books and books relating to Wales supplied by David Roberts for the bibliography, the first instalment of which was published as Llyfryddiaeth Gymreig o 1801 i 1810 (Oswestry, 1908).

Charles Ashton (1848-1899), bibliographer and library historian, was born at Llawr-y-glyn, Montgomeryshire. He served with the police force at Dinas Mawddwy, but published several books on historical and literary topics, the most important of which is Hanes Llenyddiaeth Gymreig o 1651 hyd 1850 (1893), and also competed in 'eisteddfodau'.
