Records of Williams and Grenfell's Copper Smelting Firm

The collection consists of books and ledgers regarding copper ores in Cornwall, Swansea and copper manufactured in Great Marlow, Bucks. Ticketings or written tenders bidding for ores in which the names of mines, tonnage and firms to be sold are included. Reports of ores received, smelted, in stock, made and shipped; number of furnaces at work, men employed, amount of coals received etc. for Swansea, Greenfield Mills in Holywell and Liverpool. Copper Office reports; agent's letters and reports; correspondence; stock, smelting and other accounts and inventories, 1829-1834

Williams (Owen Williams, of Temple House, Bisham, Berks., son of Thomas Williams of Llanidan, Anglesey) and Grenfell (Pascoe Grenfell, Cornish mine owner, financial authority and Whig politician) owned works at Holywell, Flintshire and at Swansea, Glamorganshire. Williams and Grenfell were also partners in the Chester and North Wales Bank, which was absorbed by Lloyd's Bank Ltd., in 1897.

The records were discovered in the Bangor branch of Lloyd's Bank Ltd and deposited in the College Library in November 1954.
