For homage and service, William son of Peter of Eslege confirms his gift to Adam de Sandhille, his free man, of an acre of meadow in Balricham, lying between land held by the said Adam and by Edward Sweyn, and a path thence to the home of the said Adam at A la milebroke; and an acre of meadow in la Wudham next southwards to the meadow held by Adam de la Morgate, extending to the east by Horsham to la Milebroke, and a part of the marsh ['more'] immediately to the east of la Brodecrofte containing one acre and bounded by ditches. Adam holds the last two properties by gift of William's father Peter. To be held by Adam and his heirs of William and his heirs. Reserving annual quit-rent of a pound of wax for all services pertaining to the donor. In recognition of William's gift and confirmation, Adam gives him 'four marks and two shillings'. Witnessed by Master William de Elingaham, vicar, then dean of Ford, Robert Capel [chaplain?] of Ford, John ?Ernis, Richard Tinctor, Henry Sprake, Adam le Buch, Nicholas le Buch, Philip le Buch, John de la Penne, and many others. Pendant tagged small green round seal with what may be an heraldic lion device and illegible lettering [S'WILE ... ESLEGME]. Several later endorsements of identification, including one which suggests that the deed features in a manorial court roll of 1 Henry IV.
