Scope and Content

The original photographs made of the Little Eaton Gangway c. 1900 are represented in this collection in modern copy prints. They show various aspects of the tramway, which ran from Little Eaton to Denby, Derbyshire. The prints depict horses dragging coal wagons; men leading the horses or maintaining the tramway; the iron plate tracks; and distant views of buildings, the canal and the countryside that the tramway passed through. Most of these photographs appear in David Ripley's book 'The Little Eaton Gangway and Derby Canal' (Oxford: The Oakwood Press, 1993).
