Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Patrick Newley (born Patrick Galvin, 1955-2009) was an Irish writer, journalist, and agent. After a brief career on stage, Newley founded a theatre agency, acting as agent to Douglas Byng, Rex Jameson, Quentin Crisp, and writer Robin Maugham, among others. He worked as a freelance journalist, regularly wrote obituaries for The Times and The Stage , and was editor of the British Music Hall Quarterly . He wrote a number of biographies, and an autobiography, The Krays and Bette Davis (2006).
