Papers of I. Gonzlez Llubera (born 1893), Professor of Spanish at Queen's University Belfast, undated, c. 1919-1960

The collection comprises manuscript research notes compiled by Llubera as editor of the 14th-century work, Libro de Los Estados (Book of the States) by Don Juan Manuel. These include biographical notes about Manuel, and editorial notes on the text of the work itself. (MS 634/1).

Ignasi Miquel Gonzlez Llubera was born in 1893. He became head of the Department of Spanish at Queen's University Belfast in 1920 and was Musgrove Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at Queen's from 1926 until he retired in 1960. Llubera was a member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, the Real Academia de Buenas Lettras de Barcelona, and corresponding member of the Hispanic Society of America. He was also the first president of the Association of Hispanists in Great Britain and Ireland.

Llubera's extensive academic output included: Viajes de Benjamin de Tudela (Madrid, 1918), Gramtica de le lenguua castellana (Oxford, 1926); Josep Ben Meir Ibn Sabara, Libre d'ensenyaments delectables (Barcelona, 1931); Coplas De Yocef: a medieval Spanish poem in Hebrew characters (Cambridge, 1947); and Santob de Carrin, Proverbios morales (Cambridge, 1947).

The collection retains its original arrangement by files, the majority of which are identified by title.

Llubera's papers were preserved by Brian Tate, Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Nottingham, who had studied under Llubera at Queen's. The collection was transferred to the University of Nottingham's Department of Manuscripts and Special Collections in March 1994.
