Administrative / Biographical History

The Liverpool Society of Anaesthetists was formed on 16 Jul 1930, at a meeting held at the Liverpool Medical Institution. This meeting had arisen from a resolution of the Anaesthetists' Board of the University of Liverpool's Clinical School, held on 24 Jun 1930, when it was agreed that Drs. Bennet Jones, G F R Smith, R J Minnitt and A J O'Leary be detailed to form a scheme for an Anaethetists' Society in Liverpool. At the meeting on 16 Jul 1930 it was agreed that the objects and aims of the Society were to be "to promote among the members theoreof fellowship, mutual help, encouragement, co-operation, professional discussion and scientific advance; to formulate an organized policy and make recommendations for the furtherance of the work of specialist anaesthetists". In Oct 1950 the objects and aims of the Society were modified slightly to read "to promote among the members thereof fellowship, mutual help, encouragement, co-operation, professional discussion and the furtherance of the work and interests of anaesthesia".
