Miscellaneous papers relating to members of the family of John Thomas Goode, a goldsmith of Handsworth, Staffordshire. The papers postdate John Thomas Goode's death in 1882 when his widow, Sarah, and their unmarried children were living in the family home, known as 'The Moors' their father had had built in Handsworth near Birmingham. This collection includes a diary, 1889-1890, kept by John Thomas Goode's daughter, Beatrice V. Goode which is itself a useful source of information about the family and illustrative of domestic and social history of this period; two unidentified photographs probably of the Goode sisters and later letters to Sarah Goode including two from her daughter-in-law, Meggie, wife of her son, Harold, witten on board S.S. Valetta in 1892en route to Australia; a letter from her son Robert in California, 1893; and a letter from her grandson Harold C. Goode in Australia, 1897 and an account book belonging to another daughter Lizzie, 1897-1916.

In the 1881 census lists the family of John Thomas Goode (1812-1882) , then aged 68, living at The Moors, Church Lane as follows: his wife, Sarah aged 51; and eight unmarried children, John aged 43, a goldsmith; Lizzie aged 27; Phillip aged 25, a merchant's clerk; Harrold aged 20, a surveyor's clerk; Eric aged 18, a banker's clerk; Robert aged 17, an auctioneer's clerk; Beatrice (1865-1958) then aged 14; and Maria aged 12.
According to the Medical Directory for 1888 Ernest Howard Goode LRCS, LBCP (Edinburgh) graduated in 1884, went on to work as a House Physician and House Surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary. He was born in 1857 and died in Australia the day after his brother, Harold in May 1893.
Harold Geithner Goode (d 1893 Sydney Australia) married Margaret Maud Charlton in 1882 and had a son, also called Harold. Another son, Robert, was living in America by 1893.
