Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The United Pattern Makers' Association was founded in 1872 in the north east of England and expanded rapidly by incorporating local societies in Glasgow, Leeds, London and elsewhere. In response to technical changes which undermined its skilled craft base the UPA widened its scope and adopted the name Association of Pattern Makers and Allied Craftsmen in 1969. In 1984 APAC transferred engagements to the Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Section which in 1988 formed Manufacturing, Science and Finance by amalgamating with the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.
