Administrative / Biographical History

The Council was founded in 1922 by Miss L.Hands. Its purpose is to press for such measures of relief as would bring practical help to Jewish women who, under existing laws, would be liable to suffer serious handicap; to consult with Jewish communal workers and organisations throughout the world respecting the legal disabilities of Jewesses; to consult with Jewish scholars regarding the best methods to employ to obtain the desired results; and to lay these considered demands ultimately before a world-wide assembly of orthodox rabbis.
