Administrative / Biographical History

The foundry was opened in 1943 by the Ministry of Supply as an ordnance factory for the manufacture of manganese track links for tanks. After the war, the premises were used to make steel castings, first by John Fowler of Leeds (subsequently Marshall-Fowler), then by Thomas W Ward of Sheffield and finally by Wombwell Foundry Group which went into liquidation in September 1981
