Administrative / Biographical History
James Mackay, originally from Tough, Alford, Aberdeenshire, graduated King's College, Aberdeen, MA 1858. He taught for a short time at Cornhill Public School [probably Cornhill, Banffshire; otherwise, Cornhill, Lanarkshire or Northumberland], before moving, in 1860, to Thanet Collegiate School, Margate, and later, c 1861, to Holbrook House School, Richmond Hill, London. He emigrated to Australia in Nov 1864, hoping to join relatives already settled there, and in 1865 began teaching at Geelong Grammar School, Victoria.
