Administrative / Biographical History
James Patrick Murray joined the Colonial Service in Northern Rhodesia in 1929, became a District Officer there in 1931, and was appointed a Provincial Commissioner in 1950 and a Senior Provincial Commissioner in 1955. From 1961-64 he was Commissioner for Northern Rhodesia in London. He was a Vice-Chairman of the Royal Africa Society until 1983.
