Scope and Content

Assorted documents relating to the Department of Architecture at Kingston College of Art (later Kingston Polytechnic) collected by Dennis Berry, who was head of the department from 1966-1987. The collection includes meeting minutes, staff lists, prospectuses, academic plans, course accreditation submissions, town study reports and programmes from degree ceremonies.

Administrative / Biographical History

Kingston School of Art (later Kingston College of Art) was originally part of Kingston Technical Institute, but formed as a separate institution in 1930. The College moved into its own campus in the Knight's Park area of Kingston in 1939. The School continued to grow in the subsequent years, teaching a number of design related subjects including Fashion and Architecture. In 1970 the Kingston College of Art merged with Kingston College of Technology to form Kingston Polytechnic, which became Kingston University in 1992. The former College's site is now the University's Knights Park Campus.

Dennis Berry was an architect and scholar who was head of the department of Architecture at Kingston School of Art (later Kingston Polytechnic) from 1966-1987.
