Administrative / Biographical History
The Union was founded in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1834. At the beginning of the century the Union had 621 members. The Union became a member of the Federation of Engineering and Shipbuilding Trades in 1891 and in 1920 it merged with other Unions to form the Amalgamated Engineering Union.

These papers form part of a large collection www.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/mrc/ead/259col.htm" linktype="simple">(MSS.259)that has been deposited in the Modern Records Centre over a number of years. Most of the Records came from the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (Engineering Section). The first deposits were made in 1984 with further deposits made up to 1997.
