This body was formed on 1 May 1959 by the amalgamation of the North East Coast Steel Makers' Association and the Scottish Steel Makers' Association. With the Midland and Welsh Steel Makers' Association, it comprised the Heavy Steel Associations which were members of the British Steel Producers' Conference, which was affiliated to the British Iron and Steel Federation. On 10 February 1965 it and the Midland and Welsh Steel Makers' Association were terminated and the British Heavy Steel Association was formed.
