Administrative / Biographical History

Goronwy Jones was employed at Lady Windsor Colliery since 1913, serving two years in the Royal Navy 1916-1918. He was a member of the Lady Windsor Lodge and in 1935 was a delegate to the Ocean Coal Combine Committee of Coalowners and Union members. He was the Chairman of the Area No. 3 Rhondda group of the committee and chairman of the Lady Windsor Colliery Lodge 1936-1949. Goronwy Jones was a pit examiner and joint chairman with the colliery manager of the pit production committee held during the last world war. He was also colliery representative on the Area Consultative Council for 3 years. In 1947 he was Chairman of the Ocean Cambrian Committee and pit-head baths superintendent in 1949.

Goronwy Jones was secretary of the local Colliery Officials and Staffs Association (COSA) branch from 1949 until his retirement in 1968. Between 1950 and December 1968 he was Chairman of the area committee of COSA.

He was also chairman of the Pontypridd Blind Welfare Committee and chairman and later a trustee of the Ynysybwl Workmen's Institute.
