Administrative / Biographical History
C.W.E. Peckett had been taught Latin by the Direct Method at the Perse School, Cambridge, and he used this method to teach Latin at Beckenham and Penge County School, 1935-1946. As Headmaster of the Priory School, Shrewsbury, 1946-1967, he developed and codified the Oral Method. He published Principia: a beginners' Latin course (1949).
