Thomas Benson Pease (1782-1846), owned property north of the centre of Leeds, in the area known as Sheepscar, off the main road to Harrogate, to which this manuscript mainly refers. His son-in-law was Robert Lawson Ford, solicitor, of Park Place, Leeds, and these papers were presented to the Library in January 1975 by Mrs Eleanor M Ford, nee Pease, widow of Robert's grandson.

Thomas Benson Pease was born in Darlington in 1782 and came to Leeds in 1802. He was a stuff merchant and principal of Aldam, Pease & Co. (later Pease, Heaton & Co.). Elected to the Council in 1836, he became an alderman in 1841. He owned property in Sheepscar, to the north of the centre of Leeds. He was a member of the Society of Friends, and died on 23 May 1846.
