Reverend T.W. Griffith Papers

This is a collection of the family papers of Reverend T.W. Griffith including material which belonged to Mrs Emma Collings Jones of Llangefni, his mother in law. It consists of general papers which includes school notes, a diary and various household documents; certificates; printed material including parish documents, sermons, promotional material for charity events, school and university journals and newspaper cuttings; family photographs and others relating to parish and university colleagues and staff etc.

Reverend T.W. Griffith (1878-1938) was educated at the University College of North Wales (now known as the University of Wales, Bangor) and at St. David's College, Lampeter, ordained a deacon in 1899 and a priest the following year. Apart from a period as curate in the north west of England, at Aston-in-Makerfield parish, Reverend Griffith spent most of his working life at various parishes in north Wales and Anglesey in particular. He was successively curate of Gaerwen, 1899-1905, St Ann's, Bethesda, 1905-1908, St Thomas's, Aston-in-Makerfield, 1908-1910, Llanddyfnan, 1911-1912, Heneglwys, 1912-1913, Llangeinwen, 1913-1915, Llanrhuddlad, 1915-1919, Llanfair-yng-Nghornwy, 1919-1920 and Holyhead, 1920-1924. He was rector of Llanddona, 1924-1932 and Llangadwaladr, 1932-1938.

The collection also contains material which belonged to Mrs Emma Collings Jones of Llangefni, Anglesey who was Reverend Griffith's mother in law. Before her marriage to John William Jones of Castle House, Llangefni, she was a companion to Mrs Henry Owen of the Rectory, Llangefni.

Material is arranged according to record type, in chronological order, and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
