Administrative / Biographical History

William Norman Illingworth read history at the University of Leeds, graduating in 1922, followed by a postgraduate diploma in education. He took his M.A. in 1925 and subsequently taught in a number of schools, before becoming headmaster of Durham City Senior School in 1932. In 1947 he resigned and founded his own school, the Sangreal School ,Durham, which he ran until 1971
