Scope and Content

A scrapbook of newscuttings and a set of pamphlets regarding religion and politics in Uganda. The collection is in English with the exception of a few items in the Ganda language. There is an accompanying letter from D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, to the Revd Welbourn, 23 October 1978, regarding the gift of the collection to the Society.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Revd Frederick Burkewood Welbourn (fl. 1948-1978) was the author of 'East African rebels, a study of some independent churches' (1961), 'Religion and politics in Uganda, 1952-1962' (1965), 'East African Christian' (1965) and, with B.A. Ogot, 'A place to feel at home: a study of two independent churches in western Kenya' (1966).
