  • Amalgamation (1898-1920): correspondence, agreements and minutes of extraordinary general meeting.

Administrative / Biographical History

This joint-stock bank was formed in 1836 from the private banks of Williams & Rowland (est. 1821) of Neath and Eaton & Co. (est. 1809) of Swansea. In 1841 it took over Walters, Voss & Walters (est. 1821) of Swansea. Branches were established at Aberavon (1861); Morriston, Swansea (1873); Pontardawe (1873); Pontarddulais (1877); Briton Ferry (1889); Clydach, Swansea (1889); Pontypridd (1890); Ammanford (1891) and Llanelli (1893). The business acquired limited liability in 1882 and was taken over by Capital & Counties Bank (est. 1877) in 1898.
