John Oates Widger, Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng.) Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (MICE) Fellow of the Institute of Highways and Transport (FIHT) was the Project Manager for Llyn Brianne Dam throughout its construction between 1968 and 1972. He was employed by George Wimpey and Co. Ltd., and later became UK and latterly international Contracts Manager for the company.
Llyn Brianne is a man-made lake or reservoir in the headwaters of the River Tywi in Wales. The Llyn Brianne Dam was constructed to regulate the River Tywi in mid Wales and impound water supplies for south Wales. The dam was constructed of crushed rock and clay sourced from the local area. It is believed to be the tallest of its type in Europe and the highest in Britain.
