The collection consists of a bound copy typescript (49pp) entitled 'British Policy and the Seizure of Aden, 1839', published in 1959. The work draws heavily on archival primary sources, which are referenced comprehensively throughout.

It has not been possible to trace any information about R.J. Gavin, except that s/he was also the author of Aden under British rule, 1839-1967 (1975, London) and also Documents relating to the 'scramble for Africa' (? 1966, ? Ibadan).
