Scope and Content

Inspeximus of a charter of Edward III, dated 24 Feb 1327 (Doc 3901), granting Gilbert de Ellesfeld liberty of warren in his manor of Ellesfeld [Elsfield], Oxfordshire. Sealed with green Great Seal (damaged) on bi-coloured silk cords. Witnesses to the Edwardian charter: W[alter Reynolds] archbishop of Canterbury, J[ohn Stratford] bishop of Winchester, W[illiam Ayermine] bishop of Norwich, Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent, Thomas de Wak', William la Zouch of Assheby, John de Roos seneschal, and others. Endorsed in a fifteenth-century court hand: 'Liberta Warenna in manerio / de Elsfelde iuxta Oxon' / in Com' Oxonie'. In pencil at top-right: '10'.
