The Fred Robinson Butterfield Collection

Three albums of negatives and prints of photographs taken by Mr Butterfield in the 1920s and 1930s. Most photographs show Yorkshire Dales scenery, a few including cyclists and other individuals. Places photographed include Airedale, Arncliffe, Aysgarth Falls, Eden Valley, Gordale, Grassington, Littondale, Malham, Swaledale. Wharfedale, Whitby and York.

Fred Robinson Butterfield was born in 1905 in Keighley. He took up cycling and became the first Secretary of the newly formed Keighley Road Club. Later he became an honorary member. Photography was his other great interest. In World War 2, he served in the Far East with the Royal Air Force. He returned in 1946 to Farnhill. Mr Butterfield died in 1999.
