Collection of items compiled by Adelaide Lilian Adamson, nurse and midwife. Includes booklets of rules produced by the General Nursing Council (1931) and Central Midwives Board (1928), instructions with regard to uniform and badges worn by nurses, produced by the General Nursing Council (1931), testimonial given to Adamson by David Currie written in March 1946, 3 photographs of Adamson holding a new born baby, hospital staff (Adamson standing at far right of group), and 7 new babies asleep, copy of 'The General Infirmary at Leeds' published by Goodall & Suddick in 1916, medical anti-gas instruction certificate issued to Adamson in 1939, Nursing Mirror certificate issued to Adamson congratulating her on passing her final examination (date unknown), Leeds General Infirmary certificate issued to Adamson in 1933 for attending a course of lectures on midwifery, United Services Fund certificate issued to Adamson for working at Rocklands Children's Clearing Home in Chapeltown, Leeds for 12 months between 1924 and 1925, Leeds General Infirmary Invalid Cookery Certificate issued to Adamson in 1928, Central Midwives Board certificate issued to Adamson in 1933 for passing her examinations to become a midwife, Leeds General Infirmary Training School for Nurses certificate issued to Adamson in 1932 for passing her training to become a nurse.

Administrative / Biographical History

Adelaide Lilian Adamson worked as a midwife at the Maternity Hospital at Hyde Terrace in Leeds upon qualifying to become a midwife in 1933, before leaving in 1946. She qualified as a nurse in 1932 after four years' training at Leeds General Infirmary.

The collection consists of personal items originally belonging to Adamson, including photographs, certificates and correspondence and rules and instruction booklets issued by the Central Midwives Board and General Nursing Council for England and Wales.
