Administrative / Biographical History

After studying zoology at the University of Glasgow, P. Jenkin joined the Percy Sladen expedition in Kenya in 1929. In 1931 she started working at the FBA.

In 1948, the Board of Research Studies at the University of Cambridge awarded her a Masters degree on the basis of her published papers. She was probably the first woman to be awarded in this way.

Jenkin went on to study diatoms and later animal hormones at the University of Bristol. She retained close contact with the FBA throughout her life.
