Administrative / Biographical History

The British steamer Pamela, built in 1921 by Scott & Sons and owned at the time of her loss by the Anglesey Shipping Co. Ltd. was on a voyage from Sharpness to Liverpool with 350 tons of barley in bags, when she went missing in the Irish Sea. All on board, the master, 7 crew and 2 DEMS apparently lost their lives. In the winter of 1944 - 1945, a 5 ft. x 1 ft. plank with black letters 'PAMELA' was found ashore at Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey. It was given to the Receiver of Wrecks in 1947. The subsequent Board of Trade investigation could not determine the cause of loss.
