John Caley: Pages from Commonplace Books

Disbound pages from several commonplace books, containing legal notes, transcripts, opinions, especially on tithe cases, titles to land, and liability for poor rates. The pages are accompanied by indexes, but all but two do not relate to these papers: General pages: Copy opinion, Old Stratford tolls, by John Bayley, 1832; further report on Old Stratford tolls, by W. Illingworth, 1832; investigation by Caley into whether Lincoln's Inn was liable to pay Poor Rates; examination by Caley of the exemption of Harefield, Middlesex, from tolls and payments; genealogy of the Marquess of Winchester; incorporation of the Company of Apothecaries; Priory of May in Scotland, A bell to the Abbey of Reading Berks; Duke of Bedford's title to land in Clapham, Bedfordshire, by Lancelot Shadwell, 1820; queries concerning whether waste and woodland when inclosed and cultivated are liable to tithe, by John Caley, 1812; tithe taking at Chingford, Essex, by William Snell, 1808; and a copy of the will of John Burton, London, 1503. Letters and copy letters: W.H. White to John Caley (1800) on arrears of fee farm rents due to the Crown; John Caley (1805), on Ficketts Fields, Lincoln's Inn; John Caley to Rev. C.W. Ethelston (1812) on the progress of his tithe case in the Exchequer Court; and John Caley to William Leigh (1831) on the expressions 'Stock meadow' and 'shear stock meadow'.
