Madoc and Glaslyn Lodges Papers

Records of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Madoc and Glaslyn Lodges, 1834-1954, including registers of the Madoc Lodge, [19th century]-[20th century]; lectures, 1834-1893; financial records of the Madoc and Glaslyn Lodges, 1878-1951; miscellaneous letters, 1929-1954; booklets, 1919; and copies of death certificates, 1932; and letters and other papers relating to Rhosydd Slate Quarries, 1928-1949.

The Oddfellows are fraternal and benevolent societies, which originated in England in the 18th century. The Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity) Friendly Society was founded in about 1810. The Society's Glaslyn Lodge was based in Beddgelert, Caernarfonshire, and the Madoc (or Madog) Lodge in Porthmadog, Caernarfonshire.
