Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Committee for Research into Teacher Education was set up in the 1969 by the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET), the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education (ATCDE) and the National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales (NFER). Representation comprised three members of the UCET research committee, three members of the ATCDE research committee and three representatives of NFER. Representation included the director of NFER and the chairmen of the two research committees. It was an informal grouping and never adopted a formal constitution. The remit of the committee was to foster and facilitate research into teacher education. At that time this field was relatively unexplored. CRITE was wound up around 1990.
