Administrative / Biographical History

Owen Lloyd (1817-1891) of Porthmadog, Caernarfonshire, was a master mariner. He was owner and master of the Brigantine Tyne, built at South Shields in 1867. Following Owen Lloyd's death, the Tyne was owned by his widow, Elizabeth (d. 1894), and his sons Owen Lloyd (d. 1895), mariner, and David Lloyd ([1839]-1928), shipbroker. David Lloyd sold the Tyne in 1916. In about 1874, Lloyd had another brig built, the W. W. Lloyd. This was shipwrecked in the Caribbean, though subsequently repaired.
