Rowlands, 1933-1975; newspapers, magazines and cuttings, 1919-1979, including Llanfachreth obituaries; ephemera and other material relating to religion, 1898-1976; remembrance cards and verses, 1884-1974; Welsh poetry, 1879-1943; bills and receipts, 1915-1956; ephemera, 1881-1915; notebooks, 1901-1967; membership cards, 1910-1947; various certificates, 1918-1952; and photographs and postcards, 1879-1962, relating to the Briscoe Rowlands family, Dolgellau, Llanfachreth and Patagonia.

Administrative / Biographical History

Howell Rowlands of Pandy Glasdir, Llanfachreth, Merionethshire, married Maria Roberts (d [c. 1938]) in 1883. They had several children including Hugh, William, Ellen Jane and Howel Briscoe Rowlands. Hugh (b. 1890) emigrated to Patagonia, Argentina. Ellen Jane (Lel) Rowlands married Arthur Falconer and had two sons. Briscoe Rowlands (b. 1892) was a Private in the Royal Welch Fusiliers during the First World War. He married Margaret Gwen (Maggie) Rowlands (fl. 1923-1975) and had two children, Mary Gwyneth Rowlands (b. [1923]) and Howell Briscoe Rowlands (b. [1925]). The family lived at Y Felin, Llanfachreth, later moving to Llys Cadwen, Dolgellau.
