Scope and Content

Whereas William Convers by indenture dated 14 February 1710 leased to Joseph Freeman certain property for a term of seventy-nine years at a peppercorn rent; and whereas by indenture dated 26 June 1720 Richard Freeman, of Stepney, Middlesex, son and heir of Joseph Freeman, for a certain sum assigned the lease to William Downing of Orsett; and whereas William Downing is since dead; William Downing of Orsett, in whom the property is vested, assigns the lease to Thomas Ruff of Orsett. Witnesses: William Hutton, Richard Cork. On the back is a receipt for the sum of money paid, signed by William Downing. Witnesses: the same. A seal is attached.
