Scope and Content

The items in this collection comprise returns from local Thenientes to a survey launched by the Justicia mayor of Sonora province, Patricio Antonio G?mez de Cossio. The subject of the survey was the fruits, trees (economic and medicinal) and medicinal herbs of the province.

Administrative / Biographical History

Sonora was one of the Mexican provinces of the empire of New Spain. The governor of the province was the Justicia mayor , whose local deputies were known as Thenientes .
