Scope and Content

An account of the parliamentary election for Yorkshire May to June 1807. Includes election addresses, speeches, rejected votes lists, subscriptions and an index. Appears to have been owned by Mr. Duncombe, chairman of the Committee for the General Purposes of Mr. Wilberforce's election.

Note: A second copy of the index is shelved at R/OW 1807/25 and printed poll book at R/OW 1807/27.

Administrative / Biographical History

The parliamentary election for Yorkshire was held from May to June 1807. It was contested by the philanthropist William Wilberforce (1759-1833), Henry Lascelles 2nd Earl of Harewood (1767-1841) and Charles William Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton and later 5th Earl Fitzwilliam (1786-1857). Wilberforce won the election, and was MP for Yorkshire until 1812. He had previously been MP for Yorkshire in 1784, 1790, 1796, 1802 and 1806.
