Papers of the Curre family of Itton Court, 1623-1866, comprising deeds, 1623-1860, relating to properties in Aberdare, Caerau, Llandow, St Andrews Minor and Wick, Glamorgan, Itton in Monmouthshire, and Westbury on Trim and Henbury, Gloucestershire; marriage settlements, 1676-1746, relating to properties in Llandow, St Andrews Minor and Wick, Glamorgan, and Chepstow Grange, Monmouthshire; wills, 1737, 1866; book of poems by John Curre (d. 1798), [1760]-[1788]; Shrievalty papers, 1859-1860; deposition of witness relating to Colwinstone, Glamorgan, 1705.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Curre family originated in Stubwood, Berkshire. John Curre (d. 1685) settled in Monmouthshire and married Mary Turberville of Clemenston, St Andrews Minor, Glamorgan. His grandson, also John Curre (d. 1777), purchased Itton Court, Itton, near Chepstow, Monmouthshire, in 1749. Itton Court was inherited by his younger brother, William (d. 1780), and then by William's son, John Curre (d. 1798). His son, William Curre (1773-1855), was married to Mary Alexaphina Bushby (d. 1823) of Dumfries. Their only surviving son was Edward Mathew Curre (1809-1868). He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for Monmouthshire and was appointed High Sheriff in 1859. In 1854 Edward married Annie King of Chepstow and they had three children, Sir William Edward Carne Curre (1855-1930), John-Mathew Curre (1859-1919) and Constance-Rebecca Curre. Sir William was the last of the family to own Itton Court.
