Publications, offprints of articles and chapters from books and periodicals relating to many aspects of West African history and culture including the slave trade, textiles, trade, economy, 1970-1986; photographs and slides of West Africans at work, crafts, produce, people, places, craftsmen, architecture; card indexes relating to imported cloths, the slave trade, West African history, trade and economy; notebooks, 1965-1980s, containing notes on aspects of West African history, society and economy; proof copies of publications; correspondence, 1970s-1980s; maps of West Africa; notes taken at conferences, 1970s; research papers, assorted photocopied printed material and a collection of transcripts of oral history interviews from 1975 relating to pre-colonial times and trade; research materials on West African trade, especially cloth and textiles, cloth currencies, slaves and timber, 1970s.

Marion Johnson was a temporary lecturer at the Centre for West African Studies, University of Birmingham, 1969-1970, then Honorary Fellow to 1988.
