Scope and Content

John Viriamu Jones (1856-1901), FRS, Principal of University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire 1883-1901 and Professor of Physics.

The collection includes:

- two scientific notebooks of Viriamu Jones, 1891 and 1894

- five offprints of papers by Viriamu Jones published in the Philosophical Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society, 1891 and 1897.

- four manuscripts: (1) Suggestions towards a determination of the ohm; (2) On standards of low electrical resistance; (3) On the calculation of the coefficient of mutual induction of a circle and a coaxial helix; (4) Observations on dabbling in prism work, 1886-90.

- Letter from the Registrar to Professor H. R. Robinson accompanying papers received from Mrs Viriamu Jones, 12 January 1928.

Administrative / Biographical History

Various printed and manuscript papers were presented by Mrs Viriamu Jones in 1928.
