Administrative / Biographical History

This firm of plumbers' and engineers' brass founders was established in 1899 in Union Street, Doncaster by Frank Pegler, who provided the capital, and Fred Birchall, who had formerly worked for Woodhouse and Co of Hexthorpe Doncaster. In 1904 a new factory, the Belmont works, was built at Balby, a suburb of Doncaster, and in 1914 the firm became a private limited liability company trading under the name of Pegler Bros. and Co (Doncaster) Ltd. It became Peglers Ltd in 1932. The second issue of the Belmont Standard, August 1947 contains reminiscences by Birchall about the early years of the business. He also wrote a pamphlet-length history of the local plumbers' brassfounders industry.
