Administrative / Biographical History

William Gilbert Williams (1874-1966), Rhostryfan, Caernarfonshire, was interested in the local history of Caernarfonshire, especially his home area around Rhostryfan and Llanwnda. He wrote a number of articles and booklets, as well as two historical plays. A selection of William's work was published in Moel Tryfan i'r Traeth (1983). He was the son of John Williams, slate quarryman and Catherine (nee Jones), his wife. Williams became the first schoolmaster of Felinwnda School, Llanwnda, in 1895. He held a similar position at Rhostryfan from 1918 until his retirement in 1934. Williams was also a local and county councillor between 1951 and 1961.
